Best free funnel builder to launch a SaaS

Watch on YouTube

In short

Systeme.io is the best free funnel builder for a SaaS launch if that launch is a waitlist, a landing page and one welcome email. The free plan never expires and needs no credit card, and it includes 3 funnels, 1 automation rule and up to 2,000 contacts, according to the official pricing page. The catch shown in the video is that the welcome email can only go out from a confirmed address on your own domain, so mail on that domain has to work first.

Questions and answers

Is the Systeme.io free plan really free?

Yes. According to the pricing page, the free plan never expires and does not require a credit card.fact [5]

What are the limits of the free plan?

According to the pricing page, the free plan gives access to all core features with limited usage: 3 funnels, 1 automation rule, 1 custom domain and up to 2,000 contacts.fact [1] The single automation rule is the limit the video flags as the first upgrade signal.

Can I send the welcome email from my Gmail address?

No. On the free account, an automation email can only be sent from a confirmed address on your own domain, and the verified Gmail address of the account is not offered as a sender.fact [13] To confirm that address, Systeme.io emails a confirmation link to it, so the domain must already receive mail.fact [14]

How fast does the welcome email arrive?

Not instantly. In the walkthrough shown in the video, the welcome email reached the inbox about 4 minutes after the signup.fact [15]

When do I have to pay, and how much?

You have to pay once you need more than 1 automation rule, more than 3 funnels, more than 2,000 contacts or more than 1 custom domain, which are the free plan’s limits.fact [1] The first paid plan, Startup, costs $17 per month and covers 5,000 contacts and 10 sales funnels.fact [19] The pricing page lists 10 automation rules for a tier with 10 funnels and 5,000 contacts, against 1 on the free plan.fact [2]fact [1]

Free funnel, real limits Play from 0:00

Systeme.io gives you a free plan that never expires and asks for no credit card, and that’s the good news first.fact [5]

Is it the best free funnel builder to launch a SaaS? Almost. One trap blocks your welcome email, and we walked straight into it in October. Here is what works, and exactly where it stops.

What the free plan includes Play from 0:19

Let’s start with what you actually get. According to the official pricing page, the free plan opens all the core features, with limited usage.fact [1]

For a launch, that’s a real starting kit. A capture page, a thank-you page and a welcome email all fit inside it.

A fresh waitlist has plenty of room before you ever feel the contact limit.fact [1]

Sending isn’t the bottleneck either: there is no daily or monthly send cap.fact [11]

Stack check: does it earn its seat? For a solo founder with a waitlist and a welcome email, so far yes.

If you want to follow along, the link is right under the video. It’s an affiliate link, and the free plan needs no card.fact [5]

Stay for the sender section. That’s the part the pricing page can’t show you.

Funnel, page and rule Play from 0:58

In this test, we built a waitlist funnel the way a SaaS founder would. A capture page where people leave an email, then a thank-you page.

Here’s an order of steps that saves time: funnel, capture page, thank-you page, and only then the email rule. Skip the thank-you page and you’ll regret it.

Why? Because if the thank-you page isn’t built, a new signup lands on a default page saying a thank you page was not defined. Your very first visitor would see that.fact [16]

So before you publish, open your page the way a visitor would and fill in the form yourself. That is how you’d meet that default page, while it’s still only you looking.fact [16]

Now the rule. The welcome email is wired in the funnel step’s Automation Rules tab. The trigger is Funnel step form subscribed, and the action is Send email.fact [18]

A tip before you build anything: write down the single email you want sent. You only get one rule on the free plan, so that rule has to count.fact [1]

The rule lives on the funnel step, so it fires when someone fills in that step’s form, not on a vague signup somewhere else.fact [18]

Name the rule after the email it sends. When you only have one, you want to find it in a second.

Simple, and it uses your single free rule. Whatever else you wanted to automate, it waits.

The sender trap Play from 2:21

Here is the trap. On the free account, an automation email can only be sent from a confirmed address on your own domain.fact [13]

The verified Gmail address of the account is not offered as a sender. We looked for it. It isn’t there.fact [13]

That’s the kind of detail a founder only learns by getting stuck.fact [13]

To confirm your domain address, Systeme.io emails a confirmation link to it. That means the domain must already receive mail, through an inbox or a forwarding service.fact [14]

So the fix is about order. Before you touch the rule, set up mail on your domain. Otherwise you’ll sit at the confirmation step waiting for a message that can never arrive.

Once the address is confirmed, it appears in the list, you select it, you save, and the rule is live.

Remember, the link is in the description if you want to start with the free plan.

The welcome email, timed Play from 3:19

Then the real test: a real signup on the live page. We watched the inbox.

The welcome email reached the inbox about 4 minutes after the signup. Not instantly.fact [15]

If your promise to subscribers is an instant reply, set their expectation on the thank-you page instead. Say it’s on its way.

And if you test with your own address, wait a few minutes before you decide the rule is broken.fact [15]

During those minutes, the subscriber is staring at your thank-you page, and a default page there looks like a broken product.fact [15]fact [16]

One more detail at the bottom of the email. Emails from the free account end with a Sent with Systeme.io link, and that link carries the sender’s own affiliate ID.fact [17]

Decide whether you’re comfortable with that footer before you write to your list.fact [17]

If this saved you a few wrong turns, like the video, drop a comment with your own setup, and subscribe to support a channel that’s just getting started.

Where free stops Play from 4:10

Now the price. The first paid plan, Startup, is $17 per month.fact [19]

Here’s what we’d watch. The free ceiling isn’t contacts, it’s that single rule. The day you want a welcome email and a second sequence, you pay, and that first paid plan lifts it to 10 rules.fact [2] The link is in the description when you’re ready to start.

So the rule is your first real upgrade signal, long before contacts or funnels.fact [1]

Best free funnel builder: verdict Play from 4:33

Verdict. Systeme.io is the best free funnel builder to launch a SaaS if your launch is a waitlist, a landing page and one welcome email.fact [1]

It’s built for solo founders under the contact limit who can set up mail on their own domain first.fact [14]

It’s not for you if you need several automation sequences from day one, or more than one custom domain. Then you’re paying from the start.fact [1]

The link is in the description, it’s an affiliate link, and the free plan needs no card.fact [5]
